The UNIFORGE heater consists essentially of a welded steel cubicle with lockable access doors. The solid-state power components are located within the cubicle. The mechanical feed system, induction coil and eject mechanism are located on top of the cubicle. The integrated system having power unit, heating line and mechanical handling system as one composite item.
This compact design requires no civil works, has a low installation time and cost and assures maximum efficiency because of short internal busbar to optimize power transmission and minimize losses.
Operational characteristics of the INDUCTOHEAT UNIFORGE system:
0.95 Power Factor Input
Wide Power Control range of 10% to 100%
High series inverter efficiency of 94%
Low harmonic distortion in input line
Standby and fast start facility
Incoming power diodes to convert the AC power to DC and provide a stable isolated platform for the
solid-state inverter
Induction load is energized by solid state SCR/diode inverter system
Tank circuit-matching capacitor to match the connected induction coil load during heating conditions
Low maintenance costs - there are minimum moving parts to wear out
Full power draw over a wide range of billet sizes with the higher efficiency at fixed frequency
Fast electronic fault protection backed up by high-speed fuses
In-rush currents are minimal on start-up
Continuous or frequent stop-starting at 100% power harmless to equipment. Unit is capable of operating
continuously at 100% power or alternatively unit can be switched On/Off under full load conditions
Other benefits are:
The INDUCTOHEAT UNIFORGE unit is equipped with a current limiting reactor and fast acting electronic circuits to protect the SCR's and diodes from a fault condition. The current limiting reactor holds down fault currents to allow the electronic circuit protection to crossfire the SCR's thus protecting the SCR's while the circuit breaker disconnects from the supply voltage.
For heavy-duty operation, power circuit components are water cooled in this INDUCTOHEAT UNIFORGE. With DC there is a potential danger from electrolysis, which may lead to internal corrosion and blockage of the water paths. To eliminate a potential maintenance problem, the UNIFORGE induction heater is fitted with an internally located closed loop water system filled with distilled water. The system includes a water-to-water heat exchanger and stainless steel pump to ensure a constant supply of clean water to the electrical components. As a further protection, water pressure and temperature devices are included.
